An open platform to make art and the artworld more accessible.

Artifaq is built to be a catalogue of the world’s art collection. Existing wiki-style sites are more suited for established artists leaving emerging artists out of the commons due to lack of notability. Even then, many established artists are helplessly stuck between edit wars. Most sites claiming to create a database for art are really just pushing online sales. We’re building Artifaq to allow anyone to contribute information about artworks to create a site that includes not only renowned masters, but also art movements that are evolving in realtime. Join Artifaq.

Building a new type of wiki

The idea came when we needed a way to document artworks at the Distributed Systems art exhibit at the Gray Area Foundation in San Francisco. A few months and a few tweaks later, we launched Artifaq in December of 2018. We’re currently creating easier ways to add knowledge to entries, and ways for users to get their community. Soon we’re building a completely new way for the the community to engage with art information gathering. Join our chat or email to stay on top of updates.

FAQ

How is Artifaq different from other sites?

We’re not interested in building a Pinterest for art, but a truly collaborative site where anyone can learn about artworks and the artworld, and where anyone can upload artists they feel aren’t represented on existing sites. An artist doesn’t need to be notable to be uploaded. We’re also not interested in ads or pushing art sales so you don’t have to feel like adding knowledge to an ecommerce site. And soon we’ll have new features we’re rolling out to make the site even more valuable to the community.
